Sorry, Shannon, I had to steal the title of your last post for my blog. Because, today Matt is DONE with school for the semester! Yeehaw and Yipee Skipee (shouted with much gusto)! Last night after staying up until 6 a.m. this morning he finally finished his last paper of the semester. This morning he delightfully turned it in and I must say, he is a new (and slightly tired) man. His face seems unburdened and he seems lighter of step.
And now I don't have to be a single mom anymore! Hip hip hooray! It's been an all me show lately when it comes to Chloe care. He's been totally "gone" mentally even though he's been here with us most of this past week. Now I have him back and I look forward to enjoying a few days of down time with him. We have much on the agenda: special dinner tonight with apple pie for dessert (Matt's favorite), scrabble tournament, walks to the park, dick van dyke dvds. :) I know, we're nerds.
How about you? Are you (or your hubby) in school? Would you ever like to go back to school? (I'm itchin' to get my masters in math but that will have to wait a little while until Matt's done with his phd.)

Congrats! How much longer until he's done for good? By the way, what degree is he working on?
He's working on a phd in english with a focus on religious medieval literature. This was just his 1st year so he still has at least 1 more year of coursework and then he's thinking another 1-2 years to complete his dissertation. Whew, this is going to be a long haul!
Bryan was in seminary before we were married and for a while after. He had to take a break due to illness, but will be glad to get it going again this fall.
I often have the desire to go back to school. I would love to get my masters in the speech field, but haven't nailed down which area to pursue first. It is more likely that I will training for interior design first though. I find it extremely interesting and have actually been hired for a few jobs, which makes me want to learn even more! Classes are also more accessible for a mommy of two small children.
Hi Alicia, remember me? I'm Jenny Parker, now Pittsley. Yes, my husband is in seminary, and he just turned in his last paper yesterday. He's graduating with an MDiv today, but he still has summer school classes to take. After that, more school! He's going on here for a Master's in Theology (ThM). Well, at least we have a couple of days now before the chaos kicks back in! I can definitely identify with you.
My 3rd year of seminary-induced widowhood is coming to an end on Monday evening. He has 2 finals that day, and then he is done. Right now is anxously trying to complete his reading requirements.
This time next year, he should be walking. 5 years of seminary will be enough for him-no phd.
I can't wait to have him back!
Listening to all as you tell of your husbands getting their degrees is so neat!!! I also think it is such a testimony of what you all go through. Time away from spouses and children can not be easy. It can not be easy being a mom to small children and doing it on your own sometimes!! I know how I feel when Kevin has a couple of late nights in a row! I couldn't imagine for an entire semester!!
You all are a great encouragement to me!
As far as schooling goes...I would love to get a degree in Business Management or Accounting! We will see how that goes!

Jenny: Thanks for commenting! Yikes, you are in store for a busy day today with your hubby's graduation. Are you all moving somewhere for your hubby's next block of schooling? (I remember your name but not your face. I searched your pittsqueak blog for a picture of you but couldn't find one! Is Josiah like 3.5 months now? He's a cutie pie! Love is big cheeks.)
Pamela: Like your phrasing "seminary-induced widowhood". Ain't that the truth! Isn't it awesome to have our hubbies back when they aren't burdened with school work? Matt is like a schoolboy again; he takes pleasure in just doing yardwork or playing games. Does your hubby have summer school?
Heather: Thanks for the encouragement! It is a difficult time but also a unifying time for us. I can't wait until we get the other side of this phd and we can encourage other families in the same boat! Go for your degree, girl! What's stopping you?
Congrats Alicia! Your name deserves to be on the phd diploma too! :) I am glad we can encourage our husbands in this way. Even here, I've seen how the married students do better b/c they have their wives to encourage them!
I can definately relate to the being thankful when the last paper gets turned in. JA took his last final for his MA on Tuesday. Although he's already talking about wanting to take more classes in a few years--UGH I just want him done!
We got married when JA still had two years left of his undergrad so I began working on my MA in order to have something to do while he studied (and so I wouldn't distract him -- which of course didn't work). I actually finished the last class for my degree in March so on Saturday JA and I will both be graduating. I would recommend waiting until your kids are in school (unless you are planning to homeschool) before working on an advanced degree because the one thing I hated was how much time my class work took away from the girls (and that was only one class a semester). Either way it does feel great to know I am completely done with school
Bryan will be doing correspondence and block courses through BBS and perhaps some languages here at Trinity.
My experience with interior design began when I remodeled my dad’s office. Then I got a call to do the other offices at his church, then referred to a lady to do window treatments, and so on. I enjoy sewing, but I'm not very good at it. When I am doing a job I sew what I can, but leave the big stuff to the professionals!
Great news, Alicia! Nate's finishing up the last 2 classes of his masters degree (coaching). He's got a couple chapters left, and 2 big papers. Then, it's down to AL in July for the cumulative exam and the big walk! He's been working on this longer than I've known him...which isn't that long anyway... but we are both so antsy for him to be done. He's especially excited because he's itching to really get the house--and himself!--ready for Olivia's arrival!
Alicia, just wanted to answer your questions. Graduation's done! Josiah had to stay up till 10:30 and I thought he'd be up all night, but he was so exhausted he actually slept better than usual! Anyway, Jeremy is going to do the ThM here, so we can stay for a couple of years, but we'll probably have to move somewhere else for the doctorate. Maybe Master's Seminary? We don't know yet.
Sorry, Jeremy's been so busy with school that I've been taking all the pictures, so the ones of me are rare. If you check back to August and November, and also February 9 and 11, I think you'll recognize me.
I think you were a friend of a friend, but I can't remember our mutual acquaintance. Maybe Monica Garcia? I was her roommate my freshman year. It's fun finding Northland people through these links, isn't it?
