Mommy moment

I meant to post this last week but never got around to it. Wednesdays are our long days as Matt is at school from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. I usually try to plan something special for Chloe and I to do together but it's tough since we are car-less. Last Wednesday seemed especially long and I ran out of energy about 7 p.m. and just vegged with Chloe watching the news on TV. When I put her to bed I always do the same routine - I read to her "Guess How Much I Love You" and then sing a few songs while rocking. I sang and she cuddled up to me, bonked her big head (it hurt a little) onto my chest and sighed a contented "Aahhh". It was so sweet! I just hugged her and cried and realized what a precious thing it is to be a mom. [The picture above is not from last Wednesday evening but during our pre-nap or pre-bedtime rocking.]

Any mommy moments you'd like to share? Isn't it amazing and blessed to be a mom?!?

March topic for recipe swappers blog

Recently Katie Bruno and I started up a recipe swapping blog. For each month we'll post recipes of a certain theme; February's theme was decadent desserts. A question for all you bloggers out there - what should our theme be for March? I enjoy making (and eating!) hearty soups but March signals the beginning of spring and soup seems very wintery. Here are some of my other ideas:
  • recipes using 5 ingredients or less
  • main course salads
  • breads and rolls
What do you think? Have any better ideas?

Chloe's visit with Grandma

My mom came for a quick visit this past weekend and we had a grand time! I made her favorites (french onion soup and lemon poppyseed cake) and we played 3 games of scrabble. Anyways, enjoy our funny photos from the weekend. Chloe was a bit overwhelmed from the extra grandma attention and didn't always smile when prompted.

She is one cute little girl, don't you agree? Which one of these pictures do you like best? (I know there are lots, and this is just a sampling of all the pictures we snapped!)

¡Que se caiga!

For those of you that don't know spanish, the title of this post roughly means "and now he falls!" Lately Matt and I have gotten sucked into watching the Winter Olympic games. It all began last week when I wanted to veg out while sewing some curtains for Chloe's room (her nursery is finally almost complete!). We got hooked on watching the events and marveling at the athleticism involved in all of them (contrary to Bryant Gumbel's opinion). From snowboarding to aerial skiing it captured our attention and awe. For us, the figure skating is the most entertaining to watch. Matt however found it suprememly funny to cheer for skaters to fall! A skater would wind up for a jump and Matt would shout, "¡Que se caiga!" Poor figure skaters - he jinxed a few of them.

Are you watching the olympics? If so, which is your favorite sport to watch?

The day has finally come

My mom has been looking forward to this glorious baby milestone; Chloe has at long last gotten her toes to her mouth! Thus far she only ventures a toe tasting when she's partially naked on the changing table and isn't hindered by her bulky cloth diaper. Our baby sure is growing up fast! Today sucking toes - tomorrow leaving for college. Sigh.

Happy Belated Valentine's Day!

We had a quiet and pleasant Valentine's Day together as a new family of three. We stayed in for a special candelit dinner and feasted on a peanut butter cookie with coffee for dessert (Matt isn't keen on rich chocolatey desserts).

Hope you and yours enjoyed the day's celebration of love. Leave a posting and let me know how you celebrated!

More Chloe photos

I must echo Shannon Conley in saying I too am a picture freak now that I'm a new mom! She's becoming much more active in the feeding process - we got messy with the banana. She also likes to "help" me with the laundry. Enjoy the following pictures of our darling Chloe Abigail Horn.

Some new Chloe pictures

Here are some recent pictures of our darling Chloe Abigail. We've experienced a lot of new things with her this month. Besides the rolling-over milestone she is getting much more curious and adventurous. She's eating lots of solids now and we're trying out her highchair. I'm afraid she's still a bit too small for it (hence the pillow and teddy bear). Now that our girl is almost at the 6 month mark, I pose a question to you. Who does Chloe most resemble? I have a feeling I already know your answer but I'm curious for some feedback.
