Matt did all the carving and guts-removal which was just fine by me. Chloe probably would have enjoyed scooping out the gooey innards for all of 30 seconds. Matt was quick and efficient. While he did the messy work, Chloe and I drew sample Bubba faces on paper. The best part was when we put the candle in the newly carved Bubba and set him on the porch. Chloe wanted to sit right next to him and kept looking inside to see the candle light.
Today we did some family shopping (I'm quickly growing out of my maternity size small/medium pants) and then stopped at a small harvest festival in a nearby city. Held at an historical park, the festival had a few kiddie activities, a craft barn, an old car display, and a few historical recreations (iron working and apple butter cooking). Chloe got to paint a pumpkin and she snagged a free firewoman hat. Score!
What fall activities have you been up to thus far?

We've been to two church fall/harvest parties. One at the pastor's home at the church we go to here in Williamsburg on Wednesdays and one with our Sunday School class at our sending church in Virginia Beach. The first one had cute little "farm" games for the kids and some funny ones for the adults too. The second one had games for kids too and a pumpkin carving contest for families. Both had bonfires although the first weekend, it wasn't as cool as we had all hoped. The second weekend, it was cool enough to enjoy being around a fire -- that felt like fall! Kayla just enjoyed running around on the two "farms" with all the other kids. I'm trying to drink in the fall activities and weather because this could be our last fall for four years. No fall in Africa!
Sounds like you've been busy with lots of fun activities. So far we haven't done much as a family lately, but next week we are going to the park, and hopefully a pumpkin patch.

Great job on Bubba! I love Chloe's rainbow pumpkin. We went to a pumpkin patch last week but we won't carve our pumpkins until later. We wish that we could have gone apple picking but an early frost killed the apples this year.:( Honestly, we've been sooo busy with renovation projects that we haven't had a chance to do too many fun fall activities. It makes me a little bit sad but I know that it won't be busy like this next fall.
