Thanks to my mom's recent visit, I had some help on my latest sewing venture. Since we don't have money to spend on decorating our home, we don't have many curtains hanging. I really like the homey-ness of curtains though and for a while now I've been wanting some cherry curtains for our kitchen.After some depressing searching on e-bay for cherry fabric ($7-$10 per yard plus shipping), my mom and I visited a Jo-ann's superstore in a nearby city. WOW, we were both blown away by the huge selection of fabrics and the cheap prices. I found some cherry fabric for about $4 a yard and some ribbon for 10 cents a yard. Voila, kitchen curtains!

I love your curtains. They are similar to what I have hanging in the kids room (as far as style goes). I wish I knew how to sew so I wouldn't have to spend money on buying curtains :-(
Thanks for your comment about my house -- I do love having a home that I can finally decorate and actually see what I have without everything on top of everything. As to your question about colors, the church let me choose all of my colors for all of the rooms.
Great job Alicia! As a fellow seamstress I can say WOW! Isn't it great to not only be able to enjoy the great looking curtains, but to also enjoy your handiwork! Your house is VERY homey and cozy! Reminds me of a verse: "She seeketh wool, and flax, and WORKETH WILLINGLY WITH HER HANDS." =)

Isn't Jo Ann's great? I have found fabric for 50 cents per yard when they have their clearance fabric half off. It's a dangerous place for me, to be sure! Great Job, Al!!!

Hey girl! I have been meaning to blog you for some time now. I always enjoy looking at pictures of Chloe. Actually Canon enjoys her pictures even more! He loves the videos you post of her and he calls her "the little girl"! I do remember you, by the way, and yes, I was pretty busy falling in love that summer...such memories! I actually have a great picture of the 2 of us at some sort of student body thing...

great job! This now inspires me to finish some pillow covers that I have had the material for about a year for! But I have had a good reason- I have only had a working sewing maching since May, but still... Your house looks very cutely decorated to me!
That's exciting! I am in the process of making some curtains for a friend -much more complicated than i anticiapted...i'll post pics when they are done...if i ever get better to be able to work on them!! HA!

Alicia! Great Job!! I grew up with the hum of a sewing machine from my mom. She owned her own business. She made any kind of curtain and slipcover you could imagine. I really do wish I would have paid more attention to the detail that is for sure. I have to settle for either buying them, or giving my mom the measurements and style idea and then shipping her fabric. Oh well...at least I am able to get homemade curtains one way or another!!!

Wow, the curtains look wonderful! You did a great job and were very creative. I am working on some curtains for our bedroom. I found some pretty tablecloths at Wal-Mart for $1 each so I just have to take a few inches out of each one (somewhere in the middle since there is a pattern on all 4 edges), stick a rod through it and hang them! I am excited.
