To perk myself and you dear readers up for this last work day, I thought I'd share a few funny kid-isms from Chloe and Clive. Enjoy!
Setting: Driving home from the farmer's market.
Chloe: "Mama, when I grow up I am definitely going to live in the country. It's very quiet out here. And I finally know what I want to be when I grow up -- a mommy!"
Me: "Chloe, I'm so glad you want to be a mommy! Being a mommy is the BEST job in the world but it's also a very hard job."
Chloe: (after thinking a moment) "It won't be hard if I don't have any kids."
Setting: 9:45 p.m. As I walk upstairs to put Solomon to bed for the night, I find Clive lying on the floor in the upstairs hallway snuggling his blanket.
Me: (surprised) "Clive, what are you doing? You're supposed to be sleeping in your bed!"
Clive: "I was praying for some food. I'm hungry, mama!"
[His prayers were answered. I promptly got him a snack and got him back to bed.]

I was up last night too with the kids, hope you get some quietness or rest today. My recent funny was that we were at a craft show, I was about to tell my boys about the spinning wheel when I heard Caleb say "Titus, look there is one of those things that turns straw to gold!"
Thanks for the giggle - I needed it! Have a great weekend!
Hang in there Momma! Good for you to focus on the good and funny things in life rather than focusing on the negative! Laughter truly is the best medicine sometimes! Hope your weekend is fun as well, and restFUL!!!! :)
Priceless comments! I especially love Chloe's reasoning--she's so right! Someday we'll get a full night's sleep again . . .
Alicia, it's been too long since I've commented on your posts. I have missed some, but I have read several at a time as well. Just haven't taken the time to comment, and I miss that. You know how it is, though, as we choose how to use our time. :-)
I had to post today, though, as I read a few posts back ago about your present sufferings/lack of sleep as well as this post. They were both an encouragement to me.
I don't know when it started but it was sometime when I was pregnant with Elliot -- Krista started calling out at night. She isn't awake, but she won't settle back to sleep unless one of us goes in and "comforts" her. It's not "night terrors" as we experienced that a couple of times with Kayla. It's "less" than that and her eyes aren't open, but it requires us getting up and going to her. Sometimes she'll be saying things we can understand but usually it's nothing understandable. Even the things we can understand don't explain to us why she would be crying out like this. Sometimes, it would happen more than once a night. She was always a good sleeper so I'm just not sure what to think. Those first 2 months when Elliot was up in the night, I was just so overwhelmed with Krista tag teaming with him. When Elliot started sleeping through the night, in comparison, just Krista seemed okay. But since the move and trying to settle in and being a full time student, Krista's calling out at night is starting to get to me again.
And like you, last night -- all three kids were up in the night. Krista calling and needing to be settled at 3:00. Kayla crying and needing to get up to go to the bathroom but wasn't awake enough to get down from the top bunk at 3:45-- usually she's fine doing that. Elliot crying at 5:00 -- what in the world? I had no idea why, but I fed him figuring that was the fastest way to get him back to sleep.
So I say "hang in there" to you and to myself as well. I wish you weren't in this "place" with me, but it is comforting to be in it with someone else too knowing that they are continuing on in the plan God has for them. I allow tiredness to affect my "spirituality" because I don't get up in the mornings before the kids to spend time with God not to mention lack of patience, self-control, and yuck, yuck, yuck -- my selfishness. God sure is patient.
Thanks again for the encouragement. I probably should've emailed you this. I can only imagine how long of a comment it has become. :-)
