During the last few weeks, our family has accomplished a bunch of projects around the house. I keep mentioning said projects here on the blog with a promise of pictures . . . so, here they are finally!At left is my newly sewn shirt. Cute, eh? It's not a maternity top; it's one of those big flowing trendy shirts. I really love it and it's extremely comfy. Now I just need a chunky wooden necklace to go with it.
Project #2 at right is a nightgown I sewed for Chloe's birthday gift. It's hard to see in the photo, but the material is chocked full of ants, spiders, and caterpillars (and yes, I'll certainly be teaching her that those are NOT all bugs; it's a pet peeve of mine that people call spiders bugs. They aren't bugs at all they're arachnids - totally different class altogether). I made it a little big so that she can wear it this winter and next winter - that's a valuable tip from my mom-in-law.
The next project was done almost single-handedly by my father-in-law during their July visit. He painted our front porch!!!!! Ever since we moved into our home 2 years ago, the wooden front porch was bear-naked and ugly. The new coat of paint makes the entire house look nicer! Thanks, Mr. Horn!
Last, but certainly not least, is the upholstering project my mom-in-law completed so beautifully. It rained for an entire week of our visit with the Horns, so Mrs. Horn kept herself busy by recovering our living room chair. We found the material dirt cheap at a local Joann's which is closing ($10 for 4 yards). And then the sewing-extraordinaire went to work. She did all this in the period of 3 afternoons WITHOUT a pattern. I'm still in an fog of amazement over the spectacular and speedy job she did.Speaking of projects, I better get back to my last minute frantic cleaning. My mom and grandma arrive is t minus 6 hours and I've got lots to do.

alicia, that chair looks awesome! your mom-in-law did an amazing job! it turned out so nice. what a great deal on the fabric too.
your top and chloe's night gown are both adorable. you are quite the seemstress.
the porch looks good too. we stained ours white the first summer we lived there and it brightened up our whole house.
the only projects i have been involved in around my house have been some embroidery projects for gifts and also improvements around our house... and trying too keep cool in this hot hot summer!

I feel like I'm doing lots of projects, but they're not fun - you know, cleaning, bleaching, organizing, etc. I did paint my main bathroom the other day - one of the last rooms to be painted. Now I only have the master bath and laundry room to go! :) I wish I could sew. Your top is so cute! And the chair and porch look great - it's nice to have great and helpful in-laws (I do too!).
thanks for posting your results! you always seem so resourceful. the only project i got done today was sorting esther's clothes. she grows so quickly that i'm having to get the new out and put the small ones away continually. i'm always reminded at how thankful i am at how little we have to buy for her thanks to hand-me-downs and God's provision!

Just renovation projects:). I love your shirt. I agree that a chunky necklace would look fabulous. Chloe's nightgown is beautifully done. I laughed at your pet peeve - if I can have mine, you can have yours - ha, ha. Your mother-in-law is amazing with a sewing machine. I would imagine that you are incredibly thankful to have such loving and helpful family in-laws:). Have a great time with all of the gals!
Wow you have been busy! I have been trying to clean house, since my in-laws should be arriving very soon. I cleaned and rearranged Audreys's room and gave the house a full cleaning. I always get so much more done with motivation! Maybe I'll post pictures of Audrey's new setup. Great sewing projects, keep it up!
I am not a big project person b/c I don't sew, and I don't decorate well, and I am seriously lacking in the creativity area. . .but, I just bought a nine-paned window at a garage sale for $5 that I plan on eventually painting red and hanging in my room, and we updated all our hallway pictures. Plus, I am purging stuff right now and that always gives me a sense of accomplishment. I think your house is absolutely adorable by the way:)
Super Cute shirt! I love it!! Great job on all the projects. I wish I could figure out how to manage my time better and get more things like that done! We just got a chair through Freecycle that I'd like to re cover but it looks like it just might be a nightmare. :-) I did get to clean out my pantry and reorganize that today! Hurray!
