Today I returned the book Bleak House to our local library because (drumroll please) . . . . .I FINISHED READING IT!
I first checked it out about 8 months ago and have been chipping away at its 836 pages ever since. I felt elated and melancholy as I finished the last few chapters last night. Indeed, I was thoroughly caught up in the story (Esther being a most endearing character) and I voraciously read the lines, weeping (Dickens is the only poetic fellow to make me cry over his words!) and laughing as it concluded.
At the library this morning, I said goodbye to my constant friend of the last 8 months. The friend that I've checked out and renewed countless times. The friend that I got lost in during a bath or stayed up too late reading. Sigh.

I'm reading too many! I am in the middle of "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way," "Don't Waste Your Life" by Piper, "The Birth Order Book" by Lehman, the Bible, and a couple others that I can't think of off the top of my head. I am slowing finishing up books I have started. I just finished "The Blessing" by Trent and Chapman.

The Mission of Motherhood - Sally Clarkson. I have 3 others that I have ordered but have not started yet. I also have a lot of children's books that I read on a revolving basis. Hmmm...I wonder why that would be:).
I love that story and can't wait to read the book version. BBC has a well done video of "Bleak House" although maybe after reading the book it might not be as great, who knows. Right now, I'm in the middle of quite a few different books, but as for a fiction, I'm reading "The Brothers Karamazov" which I as well have to re-check out of the library again. =)
Right now, Chris and I are trying to re-read the first 6 Harry Potter books before the 7th & final one comes out in July. I'm only on the 3rd one, so I gotta get going! I also read a TON of Curious George and can't wait until Luke's birthday rolls around next week so I can give him the new Curious George book I bought him. I'm SO sick of the ones we have!
wow, good for you alicia, - i'm not reading anything... i have started a few here and there, but can't get into anything... i have been crocheting a little though.
Kelly: I hear ya! I used to read several books at a time. That was in my pre-Chloe days though. Now I'm happy that I can just get one book finished!
Rachel: Sounds like you've got some good books underway! Isn't it exciting to buy new books and then dive into them at your leisure? I understand the children's books reading. I swear I know all of Chloe's books by heart. If it weren't for the library to supply some different ones I think I'd go insane.
Tricia: BBC does such a good job with dickens! I've seen their version of great expectations and they kept very close to the storyline. I hope my library has the bleak house dvd. Dickens is a master of a well-crafted story and humorous (if not simple) characters. The brothers karamazov is one of Matt's all-time faves! I've always wanted to read it. Let me know how you like it.
Katie: Oh my, you have a lot of reading to do before July then! I've heard that HP books read fast though. Tell me about CG sickness. Thank God the library has a whole shelf devoted to him. We only own about 4 CG books and the movie. Does Luke like the movie?

I'm still working on "Loving God with All your Mind," and "Shepherding a Child's Heart." I read Shepherding at NBBC, but it's different now, of course, with Olivia here. KUDOS to you on BH! What's next?
Karen: Not sure what to tackle next! I should probably pick up what to expect when you're expecting again so I can get back into pregnancy mode.
Yes, Luke has the movie and loves it. He has The New Treasury of Curious George - which has about 10 stories in it, I'm guessing. His latest favs have been the pancake breakfast & the chocolate factory ones. I'm SO sick of those! I got him another big collection book for his b-day. I think I'm going to have to give it to him early!
KT: We JUST got the chocolate factory one from the library so it's still fresh and newish to me. We own the pancake one though and I could tell it in my sleep we've read it so many times! I just have to keep reminding myself how wonderful it is to read to Chloe and suppress my own boredom. :)

That is definitely one of the reasons we go to the library every week, otherwise I would be reading the same books over and over and over. I know repitition is good for learning, but my sanity intact is also important! =)
Good for you!!! (your library lets you check things out for 8 MONTHS? I think we need to move...we only get 28 days with our borrowed books!!)
I read "Diaper Free Before 3" on our trip. SO very interesting.
i've been working on an ugly-brown-never-ending-blanket that i started when we first got married. (a girl in our youth group taught me.) - it is too not to crochet right now.
I waited to respond to your question about what I'm currently reading b/c I finished 2 reading projects this week! I have been logging lots of miles for work this week so I've been listening to "Lady Susan" by Jane Austen while I drive. Very good story - very well constructed (like all of Austen's works). I also finished a book about the prophet Amos. It was written by Francine Rivers (she has written 10 novellas that chronicle the lives of Bible characters). The subtitle of her novellas is, "People Who Quietly Changed Eternity". I think I've read them all now & they are all thought provoking.
At the risk of seeming like a copycat, I have to tell you that you inspired me to check out "Bleak House". I've read lots of Dickens (& loved them all) so we'll see if I make it through this one!
