Confessions of a slacker mom

My kitchen floor is dirty. And I don't plan on cleaning it anytime soon.

Clive donned pajamas and Chloe wore her princess dress the entire day. And I didn't even brush her hair once.

Today we did almost nothing. Though the sun was shining brilliantly the thermometer never got up past 40 degrees. Too chilly to play outside or take a walk. So, we hunkered down and bounced off the walls (correction: the kids bounced and I just sat and observed in envy) all day long.

By the end of the day, I was TIRED of being a mom. The kids didn't nap well (probably because they didn't run off enough energy) and my thyroiditis was sapping me. The golden napping overlap hour did not happen so mommy didn't get a break. Wah! Instead I sat on the kitchen floor with Clive and let him eat his weight in rice cakes.

As soon as Matt walked in the door I passed off the parenting baton and took a much-needed nap while he conducted dinnertime.

I admit my enthusiasm for all-things-mommy waxes and wanes but today it was at a rare low. I got tired of meeting everyone's needs and exerting much energy to maintain a level of expected tidiness. Anyone else been there?

After a nap and some buttery popcorn I'm feeling much better. Thank you Jesus for my dear capable husband and for the grace to get out of a mommy slump!

Uh, yeah. Been there, on more occasions than I care to admit.

And yes, thank the good Lord for wonderful, caring, attentive husbands! Besides, I'm sure the kids had a great time being crazy and showing off for mom. They won't remember our un-tidy houses, thankfully!

Hope today is better for you! Do you do anything special on Saturdays?

Uh, huh. I'm nodding in agreement. Yes, Yes, Yes I've been there!!

Thyroiditis? How long has this been going on?

Most definitely been there! I could've been the author of your post. The other day I said, "This is exactly why the ladies at my job I worked at before Kayla was born said that I would change my mind about being a stay at home mom!"

But then the next day, I thought to myself that they may avoid a lot of the day in and day out frustrations of working so hard at home and they may have an outlet where they can be "productive" and "successful" but they sure miss out on a lot of blessings too. (And I do realize that not everyone can be a stay at home mom so I'm not saying anything against those who need to work. I'm just making an observation for me and our family.) I too am so thankful for God's grace pulling me out of mommy slumps.

Alicia! I'm finally reading your blog so I can comment! :) I have these day! - more often than I would like. The chilly days stuck in our little condo are the hardest. I am praying our weather warms up for good SOON!

Hang in there! Do the bare minimum and just try to love on your kids and make it through to another GOOD day. :) That's what I tell myself. :) Hopefully - since this post was written a while ago - you've enjoyed some happy days enjoying being a mom! :)
