This week we bid farewell to Clive's curls.I had mixed emotions about Clive's first haircut. At times his curls were incredibly darling and picturesque. But Clive is genetically predisposed to have wavy hair, not curly. Lately his locks have grown beyond the cute curly level and have progressed into scraggly mullet-ness. And have you seen a 13 month old eat? It's beyond messy. Add overgrown hair to the mix and Clive is a disgusting (but still smiling and lovable) sight at meal time.
And so, it was decided. After a few failed attempts with a scissors, Matt opted for the electric clippers. Just like most toddlers, Clive
does NOT enjoy appliances that make loud buzzing noises. Blenders, coffee-bean grinders, and automatically flushing toilets are tear-inducing enemies (though strangely he's ok with my hair dryer).Clive cried and screamed throughout the haircut ordeal. But he soon forgot his woes when he sat at the dinner table and we all praised his new do.
Sigh. He looks way better with his hair trimmed and Matt did a fabulous job. But, I'm afraid my baby has become a little boy. Where does the time fly to?
I don't remember feeling this melancholy for Chloe's first hair cut. Maybe it's a boy-mama thing. Or maybe it's that I was too lazy to cut Chloe's hair until she was 2 1/2 .
Though the process wasn't too pleasant, I love the fact that we can cut Clive's hair at home with a clippers. When he gets older I'd like to buzz his hair short; talk about easy to manage! How many of you cut your kids' hair at home?

I cut Michael's and Aaron's - usually on the same day so Aaron can be "like Daddy" which of course he LOVES. I love the easy maintenance of a super short cut on Aaron!
when we had a boy first i thought hair wouldn't even be an issue. WRONG. i loved connor's hair longer, but like you said... mealtime can be nasty for lonnger boy hair. :) it's not like you can pull it back in a pony! we buzzed it super short when he was a bit younger and his hair was thinner. but now it's filled in and we love to let it go longer. nathan has gotten pretty good at trimming it. he will do connor's and then his own. i'm all for the money saving!
I've never cut a kid's hair, but I have cut my fiance's. He doesn't love the way he's been getting it cut at the barber shop so he went for a LONG time w/o cutting it (I kinda like it long but it was driving him nuts). So one Sunday night we went & bought clippers & I cut it. Very nerve wracking & he has agreed to go to the salon where I get my hair done before the wedding. I'm all for the money saving too, but I definitely need more practice to do a good job!
Clive looks adorable! I've only had to cute Maleia's bangs a couple times. That's hard enough-I can't imagine clippers! I cut Geoff's hair though. After 5 years of experience I can do it pretty quickly!
I cut my boys' hair too. Ron gets a haircut once a week mainly because of his job, but also because much longer than that and it starts bugging him. Took me a long time to convince him that I could do it when we were first married. Saves us A LOT of money! And, I'm the only one who has ever cut Aaron's hair. We started out by buzzing his hair, but it went from soft and silky to wirey and spikey. Now he'll probably have to cut it that way the rest of his life. Oh well. Megan's first haircut was a buz cut too. I don't know if we'll cut her hair for a VERY long time now!
By the way, yes, first haircuts on boys make them grow up instantly! Clive is so adorable with his new haircut! The look in the first picture even shows that he doesn't necessarily like those curls and the smile in the last picture shows he LOVES his new cut! So cute!
I cut Ryan and the boys' hair (and my dad and brother-in-laws too). There's really no reason not to and it is definitely a money saver.
I cut my boys' hair. Jason does his own, though I help him with the back at times. I'm too afraid of messing his up. I'm hoping I get good enough at cutting the boys' hair that by the time they're old enough to care I'll be an expert!
Ohhhh, that first hair cut is always a little sad for me! Adam was the same age for his first hair cut- we've been buzzing it off ever since. We cut everyone's hair here at home. I'm sure the girls will want "real" haircuts someday, but for now I'm in charge. :)
